Arctic Silver 5
Arctic silver is probably the most known name in thermal compound world
for desktop computers.
The company's thermal compounds have become a leading name in this
industry, and were the first to offer silver as a heat leading solution.
Arctic silver 3 , when it was just released , became the best thermal
compound of it's time, but after some time , the AS3 problems
started to show - as after some time the compound become less
effective , until the compound almost turned into "sandy" matterial.
Arctic silver 5 is it's successor , and is considered to be an improved
variation of the AS3.
Arctic silver 3 and Arctic silver Cleaning Kit
Arctic cooling is distributing other thermal compound , like silicon based
compounds and cleaning kits for heatsinks and cpu's.
Package:
The first thing we note when we observe the package of the Arctic Silver 5 is the Thermaltake Theme package , as the red and grey -
Thermaltake official colors are all over, with Thermaltake logo on the
corner.
on the back of the package we can find the components of the AS5.
The Compound Itself :
The arctic silver 5 comes in a grey injector including 3.5 grams
of compound , which is made of 99.9% pure silver, and oxides that helps
the heat dissipation, the compund does not include any silicons.
The compound is made out of 3 different forms, which helps heat
dissipation , as heat it transffered better from one different shape to each
other, and of course all of them are made of pure silver.
The manufacturer emphasizes that the compound is built to handle heat
and not electricity, so it shoud be kept away from ny electronic device.
Technical Details of the Arctic Silver 5 :
Thermal Conductance:
350,000W/m2 °C (0.001 inch layer)
Thermal Resistance:
0.0045°C-in2/Watt (0.001 inch layer)
Average Particle Size:
0.49 microns <0.000020 inch
Extended Temperature Limits:
Peak: –50°C to >180°C Long-Term: –50°C to 130°C
Performance:
3 to 12 degrees centigrade lower CPU full load core temperatures than standard thermal compounds or thermal pads when measured with a calibrated thermal diode imbedded in the CPU core.
Coverage Area:
Arctic Silver 5 is sold in 3.5 gram and 12 gram tubes. The 3.5 gram tube contains enough compound to cover at least 15 to 25 small CPU cores, or 6 to 10 large CPU cores, or 2 to 5 heat plates. At a layer 0.003" thick, the 3.5 gram tube will cover approximately 16 square inches.
Manufacturer Use Instructions :
The compound should be placed at the center of the cpu, you should use
an amount equals to the size of a match head, install (partially, do not
lock) the heatsink, turn the heatsink right and left a few times,
and then lock the heatsink.
